Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the most streamed song within six months. This mixture of reggaeton, and pop music didn't just bring attention back to the style, but also to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016, compared to two in 2015. In the height of Despacito's success in 2017, 19 songs that were mainly written in Spanish hit within the top 100. The number grew to 41 in 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in the year. Then, popular artistes began to collaborate with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) while Madonna was a part of Maluma for Medellin. In 2020, several Reggaeton musicians were expressing their displeasure with its direction toward the mainstream. Yet, a newer generation, Rauw Alejandro, was keen to continue the evolution. His music often contained elements from various genres, as well as electronic dance.
