Arianna Huffington

Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington has been an Greek American columnist, author and businesswoman for more than 20 years. She was the founder of The Huffington Post and the director of Thrive Global. Author of fifteen books. Arianna Huffington, an independent liberal news outlet and a television host author, author and charitable donor. Originating from Greece she was able to move to England at the age of sixteen and then graduated from Cambridge University with an MA in Economics. As the first non-English speaking student to graduate, she was elected President of The Cambridge Union' at age 21. She became a conservative syndicated writer after graduation and, with The Huffington Post launched a couple of years following, she launched an online voice platform which offered critiques of the political landscape. Her celebrity status helped her by attracting a variety of high-profile contributors to post their views about news from the world of politics and culture. Arianna's celebrity status was first noticed in 2003 when she was a candidate for an independent for the California recall vote in order to replace the then governor Davis. The project she headed was an Detroit automobile project that was fuel efficient. In 2009 she was recognized by Forbes as the most influential women in the media, achieving 12th place on the list. The same year Guardian listed her on the top 100 media list. AOL Inc. acquired The Huffington Post in 2011 and appointed her president of the media group that also includes other AOL brands like Engadget AOL Music Style list as well as Patch Media. Her parents were Elli and Konstantinos Stasinopoulos. They were who was a consultant in management as well as a journalist. While she was close to her father, her connection with her mother shaped the remainder of her life. From her early years, she displayed leadership qualities that remain highly respected. At the age of sixteen, she left the United States to the United Kingdom and enrolled Girton College Cambridge. During her college days she was a member of the college debate group Cambridge Union where she became the first foreign and third female president. She graduated in 1972 with a Master's Degree in Economics. After her graduation she became a columnist, critic as well as a TV host. In addition, she appeared with Bernard Levin in an episode of Face the music and started creating books with his editing assistance.
